Volunteers
We are very lucky at Derwendeg to have a strong group of volunteers made up of parents/ carers and members of our school community.
They all do a fantastic job of supporting our children, mostly with reading. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their invaluable support.
We are always looking for more volunteers to support our children. This doesn’t have to be in reading, areas of support can be discussed.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, can you please respond in the short form at this link and we will get back to you. Thank you in advance for your support.
Healthy Snacks
A reminder that children should only be bringing healthy snacks for their playtime snack – a piece of fruit or a healthy cereal bar please.
Chocolate, crisps or sugary cereal bars (e.g. rice crispy squares) are not allowed.
Thank you for supporting us in teaching our children about healthy eating and eating a balanced diet.
Uniform
Please click here for our school uniform policy.
A reminder that children are not allowed to wear smart watches to school and also that make up or jewellery are not allowed to be worn. We are finding that some of our older children have started to bring lip gloss to school. This is inappropriate and should not be brought into school.
Inset Day
A reminder that Friday 24th of January is an INSET day and school is closed to pupils.

Attendance Matters
The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.
We want our children to have the best possible education to give them the best chance in life. If your children aren’t in school we can’t give them this opportunity and can’t give them the opportunity to ‘be the best they can be.’

Online Safety-Physical Wellbeing
This week, some of our staff attended excellent training about the importance of physical movement for our children and how this is being impacted by too much screen time.
Physical movement and getting outside is vital for a child’s development so it is important to limit access to technology.
