School News
Estyn Inspection
Please see the attached letter regarding an Estyn inspection for our school due to start on Monday, 5th February.
Please support us by completing a questionnaire for them. The link is in the letter.
There will also be a parent/ carer meeting held on Monday, 5th February at 3:30pm in the school hall for you to share your views in more detail with the inspectors.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Unfortunately, due to the dates of inspection, we have had to cancel the planned PTA valentine’s disco. There will be another disco held in the second half of the Spring term.
Show Racism the Red Card
In this week’s whole school values assembly we talked about respect for everyone’s differences as we launched this year’s Show Racism the Red Card competition. The homework task and further information have been released the school story Dojo page.
Please take the time to complete this homework with your child and discuss the important issue of racism and value for differences.
Mrs Xiberras
Our amazing Mrs Xiberras is sadly going to be leaving Derwendeg at the end of this term (22nd March), after an incredible 21 years in our school, to take up a teaching position closer to home for her.
As you can imagine, we are all very, very sad at this news but we wish Mrs Xiberras the very best in her new school. We are currently in the process of recruiting for Mrs Xiberras’ position so we will let you know as soon as we know who will be teaching Dosbarth Glas for the remainder of this academic year.
Athletics tournament

Our Year 5 and 6 children competed in a cluster athletics tournament this week. We are so proud of them!

Attendance Matters
The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.
We want our children to have the best possible education to give them the best chance in life. If your children aren’t in school we can’t give them this opportunity and can’t give them the opportunity to ‘be the best they can be.’

Online Safety – Group Chats
We are having to deal with more and more issues in school relating to out of school group chats.
Do you know how many group chats your child is in and on what platforms?
Do you monitor what is being said within these chats?
Do you know who your child is speaking to in a group chat? You should be checking your child’s phone on a regular basis to monitor this as well as their internet usage. Please click here for a guide on group chats and the risks associated with them.
