The INSET day from the end of last half term has now been rearranged to Monday, 25th April. School will be closed to pupils on this day.
World Book Day
We had a fabulous world book day this week with many of our staff and children dressing up as their favourite book character. As part of the celebrations, the staff had a bit of fun! We have completed our very own ‘Masked Reader’ using some of our favourite books to share with the children. We thought you might enjoy it too. Can you guess who the masked readers are? Thank you to Mr Williams for putting it together for us. Reveal video coming soon. Happy World Book Day everyone.

Comic Relief
We will be celebrating Comic Relief with Mad Hair this year on Friday 18th March. Please bring a small donation if you can. Red Noses will be on sale for £1.50.
Ukraine Donations
The school will be collecting donations to support the people of Ukraine in liaison with other local community groups.
They are specifically looking for donations of:
- Baby items – e.g. dummies, bibs, baby wipes etc.
- Toiletries suitable for adults or children
If you are able to help in any way, please send your donations to school by the 14th of March.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
The Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II will be celebrated in 2022 to mark the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on 6 February 1952. The Royal Commonwealth Society of Wales is marking the occasion by celebrating the diverse society that exists in Wales today, focusing particularly on people from around the Commonwealth.
They are holding a poster competition which is open to primary school children aged 4-11 in Wales. The title of the poster is ‘Wales and the Commonwealth – a jubilee celebration”
Each poster should be A4 size, it can be produced in any format (using ICT, paint, collage, crayons ….. anything but not 3D as it needs to be framed). Entries can be sent into school or photographed and sent via dojo. The school will submit the entries.
The winning poster will be framed and given to Her Majesty as a gift to celebrate the jubilee. An exhibition of the posters will be held in Cardiff in June 2022. Plus the top 10 posters will be exhibited on the RCS Wales website.
The closing date for entries to us is: Friday 25th March. Good luck everyone.
Service Children
At Derwendeg Primary School, we are committed to understanding the needs and supporting all our learners with their unique experiences throughout education. One such group that we aim to support is children of Armed Forces personnel.
By identifying the number of Service children in Derwendeg Primary School, we can be proactive in identifying their needs, making support available and accessing funding if required.
Please help us to gain an understanding of our Service community by completing the form at the link below by Friday, 4th March. We encourage all families to return the completed form, to indicate if they are part of an Armed Forces family or not.

Looking after our mental health is so important and it’s vital that we teach our children how to look after their own mental health as they grow up. The link below lists a range of apps that can be used to support children’s mental health:
