School News

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends, As we reach the penultimate week of the school year, it is hard to believe how quickly the time has flown by. The school continues to be full of excitement, achievements and memorable moments, and it has been wonderful to see our children embracing every opportunity that has come their way

Summer Reading Challenge

A reminder that the Annual Library Summer Reading Challenge returns this summer with the exciting theme Read to the Beat. The challenge runs from Saturday 4th July until Saturday 12th September and is a fantastic way to encourage children to keep reading over the holidays. A detailed message has already been shared on ClassDojo, and we hope many of our pupils will take part and return to school in September proudly showing us the certificates and medals they have earned.

Special Assemblies

Our recent assemblies have been a wonderful celebration of the children’s learning and achievements. It was a pleasure to see pupils confidently sharing their work from our topic, How to Clean Our World, and showcasing what they have learned about caring for our environment. We were also delighted to celebrate the children’s involvement in the Flourish workshops. Thank you to everyone who came along to support these special events—we look forward to more celebrations next week.

Year 6 and transition

As we prepare for our final week of the school year, we are also getting ready to say goodbye to our wonderful Year 6 pupils. It is hard to believe that the time has come for them to move on to the next stage of their journey. They have been an important part of our school community, and we are incredibly proud of all they have achieved during their time with us. Next week will undoubtedly be filled with mixed emotions as we celebrate their successes and wish them every happiness for the future. We know it will be an emotional time not only for our Year 6 families, but also for many parents and children across the school as another school year comes to an end and new chapters begin. We hope everyone enjoys these final special moments together before the summer holidays.

Visitors from Spain

This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming our Spanish visitors to our school. It has been wonderful to practise our Spanish, learn about a different education system, and share so many memorable experiences together. Our children truly demonstrated what kind, respectful, and welcoming young people they are throughout the week. Our visitors were incredibly impressed and told us that our school was the loveliest they had visited, praising our pupils for being so well behaved and for the respect they show their teachers. We are very proud of everyone who helped make their visit such a positive and memorable experience.

PTA Colour Run – Thursday 16th July

A reminder that our fantastic PTA Colour Run will take place on Thursday 16th July. Those of you who joined us last year will remember what an amazing

afternoon it was, filled with laughter, colour and plenty of fun for everyone involved.

We would love to see as many families as possible taking part again this year. If you haven’t already booked your place, there’s still time! Thank you to our wonderful PTA for organising another exciting event—we’re looking forward to another colourful and memorable afternoon together.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Mr Lloyd, Mrs Lloyd and the Derwendeg team

Attendance Matters
The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.

We want our children to have the best possible education to give them the best chance in life. If your children aren’t in school we can’t give them this opportunity and can’t give them the opportunity to ‘be the best they can be.’
