School News

Dear Parents,
Carers and Friends, Here are a few important updates and reminders as we continue through another busy term

Transition

This week, our Transition Days were a great success. The children had a fantastic opportunity to spend time in their new classes, get to know the adults and children they will be learning alongside, and begin preparing for the new school year. As expected, there were a few nervous faces at the start of the day, but it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces leaving school, full of excitement and eager to share their experiences. Transitions can bring a mixture of emotions for both children and parents. Whether it means a new class, new routines, or simply moving into a new year group, change is an important part of growing up. These experiences help children develop confidence, resilience and independence, and we are incredibly proud of how well everyone embraced the day. We hope it has helped children feel excited and reassured about the year ahead.

Money Ready Project – Caerphilly MP visit

Last Friday, we were delighted to welcome Caerphilly MP, Chris Evans, to our school as part of our work with the Money Ready project. Money Ready is a wonderful programme that helps children develop an understanding of money, saving and making sensible financial choices from an early age.

We have always taken part in the project with our Year 6 pupils, so it was especially lovely to involve our Reception children this year. They have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the activities with Mrs Gray, and we are pleased to let parents know that every Reception child will receive a book to take home before the end of term once they have completed the project.

PTA Colour Run – Thursday 16th July

A reminder that our fantastic PTA Colour Run will take place on Thursday 16th July. Those of you who joined us last year will remember what an amazing

afternoon it was, filled with laughter, colour and plenty of fun for everyone involved.

We would love to see as many families as possible taking part again this year. If you haven’t already booked your place, there’s still time! Thank you to our wonderful PTA for organising another exciting event—we’re looking forward to another colourful and memorable afternoon together.

Trips and ParentPay Reminders

We are excited about the educational visits and experiences planned for the coming weeks. Please keep an eye out for letters and emails regarding upcoming trips, and ensure payments and permissions are completed promptly via ParentPay. If you need any support accessing the system, please contact the school office.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Mr Lloyd, Mrs Lloyd and the Derwendeg team

Attendance Matters
The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.

We want our children to have the best possible education to give them the best chance in life. If your children aren’t in school we can’t give them this opportunity and can’t give them the opportunity to ‘be the best they can be.’
