School News
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,
As we reach the end of a busy and exciting half term, we would like to take a moment to reflect on all that we have achieved together. It has been a wonderful few weeks filled with hard work, special events and memorable experiences for our children
Safer Internet Day
This week we marked Safer Internet Day, an important opportunity to remind everyone how to stay safe online. The children thoroughly enjoyed a special assembly organised by Mr Cooper and our Digital Leaders, who did a fantastic job of sharing key messages. We discussed the importance of keeping personal information private, being kind and respectful online, using strong passwords, and always speaking to a trusted adult if something doesn’t feel right. Staying safe online is a vital life skill, and we encourage families to continue these conversations at home.
Fun Run Success and London Trip Excitement
We would like to warmly congratulate all of our children for the incredible effort they put into our recent Fun Run. Their enthusiasm, determination and team spirit were wonderful to see, and we are so proud of what they achieved. Thanks to their hard work, valuable funds have been raised towards their upcoming trip to London. The children are very much looking forward to seeing the production of Matilda, taking in the famous sights of the capital, and enjoying a memorable flight on the London Eye. What an exciting experience ahead!
Valentine Chocolate Fundraiser
Thank you to all parents and carers for your generous support with our Valentine chocolate fundraiser.
ParentPay
As we look ahead to upcoming school trips and activities, we kindly ask all families to make sure they are signed up to ParentPay. This will help us manage permissions and payments more smoothly. If you need any support setting up your account, please contact the school office — we’re happy to help!
Eisteddfod Celebration – Thursday 26th February
After the holidays, we are very much looking forward to celebrating our school Eisteddfod on Thursday 26th February. The children have been working incredibly hard to prepare entries for a variety of competitions, and we are excited to come together as a whole school to celebrate their talents and achievements. On the day, children may wear traditional Welsh costume, a Welsh shirt, or dress in red, white and green to mark the occasion.
World Book Day – Friday 6th March
We will be celebrating World Book Day on Friday 6th March. Children are welcome to dress up as their favourite book character if they wish, or they may come dressed as a reader and bring along their favourite book to share. There will be lots of fun activities taking place throughout the day to celebrate our love of reading.
Half Term Reminder
We wish all of our pupils and families a wonderful half term break. Please remember to complete your home-school craft ready for our Eisteddfod celebrations. We cannot wait to see all of your fantastic creations and look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for an exciting term ahead.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Mr Lloyd, Mrs Lloyd and the Derwendeg team

Attendance Matters
The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.
We want our children to have the best possible education to give them the best chance in life. If your children aren’t in school we can’t give them this opportunity and can’t give them the opportunity to ‘be the best they can be.’
