Covid-19
The fight against covid-19 continues. It is still very much prevalent within our local community and we must continue to do everything we can to reduce the spread of the virus.
You can help us in the following ways:

  • Do not send your child to school if they have any of the 3 symptoms of covid-19 (high temperature, cough or loss of taste or smell) or if anyone in your household has any of the symptoms. Stay at home and book a test as soon as possible.
  • If your child, or anyone in your household, is waiting for a test result, the whole household should isolate. Always let us know of the test result, whether it’s negative or positive.
  • Please also keep your children at home and monitor their symptoms if they are feeling generally unwell. This is never something we would normally ask but covid-19 presents itself very differently in children and we are finding that children who start off feeling generally unwell can later develop symptoms of Covid.
  • Always maintain a 2 metre distance when dropping off and collecting the children.
  • Always adhere to Welsh Government guidance – whilst 2 households can now form a bubble, this is 2 households only. If you are allowing your children to mix with lots of other children from different classes and different households, you are not only putting your child at risk of contracting the virus, but also putting our school, pupils and staff at risk. Please let us know if you have formed a bubble with another family within our school so we can be aware.
  • Do not share a car with anyone outside of your bubble.
  • Arrive on time when dropping off and collecting your children to avoid any contact with children from other classes.

Face Coverings
Following a review of our Covid-19 risk assessment in liaison with Caerphilly Health and Safety, we are now politely requesting that parents and carers wear a face mask when dropping off and collecting the children. This is a polite request only, staff will not be enforcing it.
Please remember, it is still vital to maintain a 2 metre distance from others even when wearing a face mask.

Drinking Water
We have recently had some queries regarding what drinks are allowed in class. At present, the school policy is that only water is allowed during the day in classes. This was discussed and agreed with the pupil school council a number of years ago and is still in place. The children are allowed to bring an alternative drink with their lunch (no fizzy drinks, sugar-free squash only).

Online Safety
Please see the link below to an NSPCC website showing how you can use parental controls on your children’s devices to help monitor their usage and limit access to inappropriate apps and websites:

Big Talk (Please discuss with your children):
This week’s topic is … What’s the best mistake you’ve made and what you did you learn from it?
