School News
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,
It has been another busy and enjoyable week across the school, with lots of exciting learning taking place both in and out of the classroom. We are proud of the children’s enthusiasm, effort and positive attitudes as they continue to develop as confident, capable learners.
This week, our ASPIRE Curriculum has continued to ensure that learning across the school is purposeful, inspirational and engaging. The children have been enthusiastically preparing for St Dwynwen’s Day, taking part in a range of creative and meaningful activities that celebrate kindness, friendship and Welsh culture. It has been wonderful to see the children so involved and excited by these experiences.
Across the school, pupils have enjoyed many lovely science and art lessons, exploring their current topics in creative and practical ways. From investigating scientific ideas to expressing learning through art, the children have shown curiosity and enthusiasm, making their learning both enjoyable and memorable.
We would also like to remind parents and carers about the importance of age-appropriate use of apps, including WhatsApp. Many messaging apps have age restrictions and are not suitable for primary-aged children. In school, through our curriculum and Digital Competence Framework (DCF), children are taught how to stay safe online, communicate respectfully and understand responsible digital behaviour. We strongly encourage families to support this learning by regularly checking children’s phones and devices.
Unfortunately, we have had reports of groups sharing unkind and inappropriate messages, and we appreciate your continued support in helping us keep all children safe, respectful and responsible online.
ParentPay
As we look ahead to upcoming school trips and activities, we kindly ask all families to make sure they are signed up to ParentPay. This will help us manage permissions and payments more smoothly. If you need any support setting up your account, please contact the school office — we’re happy to help!
Thank you for your continued support with reading at home, learning spellings and High Frequency Words (HFW). These daily practices make a significant difference to children’s progress. We would also like to congratulate pupils who have been working hard on Mathletics and achieving their certificates — well done! If you are unsure how to access or use Mathletics at home, please speak to your child’s class teacher, who will be happy to help.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Mr Lloyd, Mrs Lloyd and the Derwendeg team

Attendance Matters
The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.
We want our children to have the best possible education to give them the best chance in life. If your children aren’t in school we can’t give them this opportunity and can’t give them the opportunity to ‘be the best they can be.’
