School News
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,
Here are a few important updates and reminders as we continue through another busy term.
Heatwave
Firstly, I would like to say a huge thank you to all of our families for your patience, understanding and support during this week’s extremely hot weather. It has certainly been a challenging week, but the safety and wellbeing of our children has remained our highest priority throughout. We have greatly appreciated your kind words and cooperation as we made adjustments to routines to ensure everyone stayed as safe and comfortable as possible.
Class Information and Transition Day
Next week, parents and carers will be informed of their child’s class and teacher for the new academic year. We know that this is always a time filled with a mixture of excitement and apprehension for both children and families.
Our whole-school Transition Day will take place on Thursday 2nd July, giving children the opportunity to spend the day with their new teacher and classmates. We hope they all have a fabulous day getting to know their new classroom and beginning the exciting journey towards the next school year.
Year 5 & 6 Sponsored Fun Run
A reminder that our Year 5 and Year 6 Sponsored Fun Run will take place on Friday 3rd July. This is a fantastic opportunity for children to raise money towards next year’s residential visit to the Summit Centre, where they will enjoy a two-night stay packed with exciting outdoor activities including canoeing, archery and team-building challenges.
The children will be encouraged to complete as much as they can, but most importantly, we want everyone to enjoy themselves, have fun and celebrate taking part. Thank you in advance for supporting this wonderful fundraising event.
Year 6 Swimming Lessons
It has been wonderful to see our Year 6 children make such a positive start to their swimming lessons. We know there were a few nerves alongside lots of excitement before the first session, but it has been lovely to see how quickly the children have grown in confidence.
Already, we can see a real difference for those children who have never had swimming lessons before. Learning to swim is such an important life skill, and we are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and determination the children have shown. We look forward to seeing their confidence continue to grow over the coming weeks.
Trips and ParentPay Reminders
We are excited about the educational visits and experiences planned for the coming weeks. Please keep an eye out for letters and emails regarding upcoming trips, and ensure payments and permissions are completed promptly via ParentPay. If you need any support accessing the system, please contact the school office.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Mr Lloyd, Mrs Lloyd and the Derwendeg team

Attendance Matters
The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.
We want our children to have the best possible education to give them the best chance in life. If your children aren’t in school we can’t give them this opportunity and can’t give them the opportunity to ‘be the best they can be.’
