School News
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported our recent Macmillan Coffee Morning—whether you kindly donated a cake or came along to join in the fun, your contribution made all the difference.
We know how important the work of Macmillan Cancer Support is, and how deeply it touches many in our school and wider community personally.
Thanks to your generosity and involvement, the event was a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed by all. It was a lovely way to come together for a great cause, and we are truly grateful for your support.
Healthy Lunchboxes – Fuel f or Learning
A gentle reminder as we settle into the school routine: packing a healthy lunchbox is a fantastic way to support your child’s energy, concentration, and wellbeing throughout the school day.
Aim for a nutritious balance that includes:
Protein (e.g. lean turkey, chicken, eggs, or cheese) Whole grains (like wholemeal bread or wraps) Fruit and vegetables for vitamins and fibre
A reusable water bottle to stay hydrated Here’s a simple example of a balanced lunch:
A whole-grain sandwich with lean turkey and cheese, carrot sticks with hummus for dipping, a small apple, and a yogurt tube as a tasty treat.
If your child enjoys a sweet treat, a small chocolate bar can be included occasionally—but it’s best to keep sugary items as a now-and-then treat, not a daily staple.
Variety and colour not only make lunchboxes more appealing but also help ensure your child gets a wide range of essential nutrients to grow, learn, and play at their best.
Harvest Festival – Monday 29th September
This coming Monday, we’re looking forward to our Harvest Festival celebration during Assembly.
As part of the celebration, we are kindly asking for donations of non- perishable goods, such as tinned food, dried pasta, rice, cereals, or long-life milk. All donations will be collected by the Food bank and go to support local families in need and are very much appreciated. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
After-School Clubs – Let’s Get Singing !
We’re delighted to see such strong attendance at our after-school clubs—it’s been fantastic to watch pupils enjoying activities beyond the classroom.
We’d especially love to build some momentum for our singing group, with the aim of forming a school choir. If your child enjoys singing—even just for fun— please encourage them to come along. It would be wonderful to develop a choir that could perform at school events and community celebrations. No experience is necessary—just enthusiasm!
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Warm regards,
Mr Lloyd, Mrs Lloyd and the Derwendeg team.

Attendance Matters
The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.
We want our children to have the best possible education to give them the best chance in life. If your children aren’t in school we can’t give them this opportunity and can’t give them the opportunity to ‘be the best they can be.’
