School News
Dear Parents and Carers,
We’ve had a wonderful and productive few weeks here at Derwendeg
Curriculum & Pupil Voice
All the children have been busy generating fantastic ideas for their new topics. These will be carefully considered as we plan upcoming lessons and activities, ensuring that pupils are actively involved in shaping their learning. Their contributions will help enrich our ASPIRE curriculum, making it even more engaging, relevant, and meaningful to them. It’s brilliant to see such enthusiasm and creativity shining through!
Reading Reminder
All children should now have brought home a reading book. Books will be changed weekly, but please remember to sign your child’s reading record — this is really important to help us keep track and support their progress.
Reading regularly at home is vital in helping your child access all areas of the curriculum, so thank you for your continued support with this.
Valley View Care Home Visit
Our first visit to Valley View Care Home this term was a truly heartwarming experience. The children enjoyed a lovely tour and brightened the day for many of the residents — even bringing tears of joy to one gentleman who was incredibly moved by their visit. It was a powerful and emotional moment for everyone involved and a reminder of how much of a difference our pupils can make in the community. We look forward to many more meaningful visits in the coming months.
Healthy Schools Initiative
We are continuing to promote healthy habits in school and would really appreciate your support. Please encourage your child to bring in healthy snacks, such as fruit, and water to drink throughout the day. We’re aiming for the Healthy Schools Award, and with your help, we know we can achieve it!
Mathletics at Home
Mathletics login codes should now have been received for children in Years 1 to 6. These can be used at home to support your child’s maths learning in a fun and interactive way. If you’re unsure or haven’t received your child’s code yet, please check in with us — especially for Elijah, whose code we are confirming.
As always, thank you for your continued support. It’s a pleasure to see our children thriving, and we’re excited for the rest of this term.
School Lottery
We run a successful lottery which gives monetary prizes after a draw on a Saturday evening at 8pm. It is only open to people who have signed up from our school – this means that one of our community will win this prize. It is sent straight to your bank account by the company. So no waiting around for your prize.
Please sign up to join our lottery at

As always, thank you for your continued support. It’s a pleasure to see our children thriving, and we’re excited for the rest of this term. Mr Lloyd, Mrs Lloyd and the Derwendeg team.

Attendance Matters
The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.
We want our children to have the best possible education to give them the best chance in life. If your children aren’t in school we can’t give them this opportunity and can’t give them the opportunity to ‘be the best they can be.’
