Half Term
Today is the last day of the first half of the Autumn term. It has certainly been a very busy half term as we settle the children into their new classes and into a new school year.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of our school staff who work incredibly hard to support all of our children to be the best they can be. We are incredibly lucky at Derwendeg to have such a dedicated and committed team of staff and I am truly grateful to work with such a great team. Thank you to our amazing children for always making us smile, we are so proud of them and
thank you to our parents and carers for your ongoing support. We hope you and the children have a great half term. We look forward to welcoming our children back on Tuesday, 7th November.
Mrs Wangiel

INSET Day
A reminder that there is an INSET day on 6th November 2023. School will re-open to
children on Tuesday 7th November 2023.

Step-Up Behaviour Management Programme Changes
As you will be aware, we run the Step-Up behaviour management programme at Derwendeg and have done for a number of years. We are continually reviewing and listening to staff, pupil and parental feedback about the programme. Please see the letter here regarding some changes to our Step Up behaviour management programme due to start after half term.
If you have any questions or concerns about these changes, please do not hesitate to contact me or see me on the gate.

Safe Parking
Once again, we are receiving reports of disrespectful parking when dropping off and collecting the children from school. Please stop and think about where you park. It is unacceptable to block our neighbours’ drives when parking outside of the school.
We have also had concerns raised about unsafe parking on the pavement opposite the school. If you park there and block the pavement, this forces our parents and children to walk on the road which is dangerous. Please stop and think.
We politely ask you to be considerate when parking and ensure you are not blocking drives or blocking pavements. If you live close enough to the school, please walk your children to and from school. Not only will this make our school a safer area but will also ensure the children are getting fresh air and exercise before and after schoool.
Please share this with Grandparents and other relatives who may be dropping off and collecting the children

Attendance Matters

The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.
We want our children to have the best possible education to give them the best chance in life. If your children aren’t in school we can’t give them this opportunity and can’t give them the opportunity to ‘be the best they can be.’

Online Safety – Social Media Scams
We are hearing more and more about the game ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ in school. The game is a horror game and the sinister characters, unrelenting sense of tension and some disturbing themes are all potential hazards that parents and carers should be aware of. Please click here to access a guide for more information. Please remember, when our children see something inappropriate or scary online, it can never be unseen.
