Dear parents and carers,

I hope you are all well and keeping safe. As you will be aware, the number of positive cases of Covid-19 within the Caerphilly borough is increasing and schools are being affected as a result.

We are still very fortunate not to have had a positive case within Derwendeg but we must keep doing everything we can to keep each other safe. Where schools have been affected, in some cases, the transmission of the virus is being traced back to out of school gatherings. Please help us to keep everyone safe by following the Caerphilly lockdown rules that are currently in place.

In the eventuality of a positive case, we will follow strict public health protocols and work closely with Public Health Wales and the Test, Trace and Protect programme to ensure the safety and health and wellbeing of the whole school community.

If you are informed of a positive test result for your child, please contact me immediately.

The Test, Trace and Protect teams are not always contacting schools quickly causing a delay in contacting the families of pupils who need to isolate so it’s important this information is shared with us as quickly as possible. During school hours, you can call the school on 01443 813138. Outside of school hours, you can send me a direct message on Class Dojo or also through the school Facebook page – @DerwendegPrimarySchool (please note the official school Facebook page is separate from the PTA page.)

Please remember, if your child has any symptoms, no matter how mild, do not send them to school. Keep them at home and arrange for a test as soon as possible.

I’d also like to say thank you to you all for your patience and understanding during our staggered start and finishing times. We are trying our best to make them as smooth as possible and we are continually monitoring our procedures. We will update you on any changes at the end of the week.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Take care everyone,
