School News

Thank you!
Wow! Well here we are at the end of another academic year and the end of my 4th year as Headteacher of Derwendeg Primary School. It’s been another busy, challenging year for us all in so many ways! Every year, my pride for the school, our children, our community and our staff grows and grows. It is a pleasure and a privilege to be the Headteacher of this wonderful school. Our children never fail to amaze me; they are resilient, honest and hardworking everyday and we are so proud of them!
I’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to our incredible team of staff who work tirelessly to ensure our children have the best possible education and experiences. I am truly grateful to each and every one of them and I am privileged to work alongside them.
Thank you also to our school PTA for their commitment to raising funds for our school, it is hugely appreciated.
And finally, thank you to you all as our parents, carers and school community for your support to us as a school and your understanding of the high standards and expectations we have for our children. I am truly grateful.
I hope you all have a wonderful summer with your children, spending time making wonderful memories.
Mrs Wangiel

Reminder – Update to PE Kit from September 2023
From September 2023 we will be updating our PE uniform expectations. This was a wonderful idea generated by our school council children.
From September, children should come to school wearing a plain (unbranded) tshirt in their house colours, with black bottoms (shorts/leggings/joggers) and black trainers.
The house colours are the colours the children are in for their sports days. If you are unsure of what house your child is in, please ask their class teacher who will be happy to help.

Book Launch
Dosbarth Enfys worked with Petra Publishing to collaborate on a book ‘Forest of Flames’ with the aim to educate and reduce the risk of wildfires. We were so pleased to welcome the fire service and the publishers into school for a book launch. If you’d like to order a copy of the book please email petrapublishingmj@gmail.com

Summer Celebration
Thank you to all our volunteers who helped make our end of year celebration a success. We had stripped it back as we thought the weather would beat us but thanks to our volunteers and some helpful children, we beat the odds and the weather stayed fine!
Thank you to each and everyone of you who has attended our events this year. It really does mean a lot to us that you continue to support us and help us raise funds for the children in our school. It also is amazing to see everyone joining in and having fun.
It is through your support that we have donated nearly £3000 to the school, to help buy resources, fund trips and provide fun activities for our children. We have also given Easter Eggs and selection boxes to every child.
A big thanks to all staff, who help at events.
Enjoy your summer and we look forward to next year where we will be back with some events again for all to enjoy.

Attendance Matters

The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.
We want our children to have the best possible education to give them the best chance in life. If your children aren’t in school we can’t give them this opportunity and can’t give them the opportunity to ‘be the best they can be.’
