End of Half Term
And here we are yet again at the end of another busy half term, this year is going by so quickly!

Once again, we end the half term beaming with pride for our children and their hard work and resilience. Thank you to all of our amazing staff for their hard work and dedication to our pupils, making sure they go home with a smile on their faces each day.

And thank you to you all as parents and carers for your ongoing support for the school. We wish you a wonderful half term with your beautiful children. We look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday, 3rd June.

Breakfast Club
Derwendeg Primary School offers a free breakfast club for children. If you would like your child to attend please collect a form from the office. Drop off is between 8.15am and 8.30am at the gates nearest the office/shelter. Children must be dropped off prior to 8.30am so they have enough time to eat breakfast before the school day. Unfortunately, there will be no entry for any child arriving after 8.30am.

MMR Vaccines for Children
Following the recent outbreak of Measles in Gwent, the School Nursing Service are holding a number of MMR vaccine catch-up clinics for school aged children over half -term.

If your child has already received 2 doses of the MMR vaccine (at 1 year and 3.5 years) they are fully vaccinated, so no further action is required. If you need to check your child’s immunisation status, please call 0300 303 1373. Please follow this link for walk – in clinic information across Gwent.

School Dinners
Please click this link to order school dinners for your child for the first week back after half term, week beginning Monday 3rd June.

Please look at the form carefully and choose which dinner option for each day your child would like to order. Your child does not need to have a school dinner every day. Please fill out the form even if your child brings sandwiches from home everyday.

You will need to order your child’s dinners by Friday. Ordered meals will be passed to the school kitchen every Monday morning. We will be on Week 1 menu.

Attendance Matters

The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.
We want our children to have the best possible education to give them the best chance in life. If your children aren’t in school we can’t give them this opportunity and can’t give them the opportunity to ‘be the best they can be.’

Inappropriate Content
Keeping our childen safe online is just as important as keeping them safe in the real world. There is so much inppropriate content online, it is our duty to protect the children from it and monitor their internet usage very carefully.

Please click here to access a guide with some useful tips about how to protect your children from accessing inappropriate content.

Don’t forget – when a child has seen something inappropriate, they can’t unsee it and it could frighten them.
