Dear Parents and Carers,
Here we are at the end of another half term, the weeks are going by so fast! This half term has certainly been a busy one; the children and staff have worked so hard and I want to thank each and every one of them for their commitment to learning. I am beyond proud of the children and staff and am truly grateful to work with such a dedicated school community. I’d also like to thank you all as parents and carers for continuing to support us within our Covid-19 procedures.
I hope you all have a lovely half term break, fingers crossed the sun will keep shining for us!
Take care, stay safe
Mrs Wangiel

SHEP (Summer Holiday Enrichment Programme)
Derwendeg Primary School will be hosting the Summer Holiday Enrichment Programme (SHEP) during the summer holidays. Please see the leaflet at this link for more information:

There are only 40 spaces on the programme for pupils from Reception to Year 6 and spaces will be offered on a first come, first served basis. A link to register will be sent out via a message on Class Dojo on Wednesday, 9th June. We will contact you to confirm the place.
Free School Meal Deliveries
Free School Meals deliveries during half term will take place from 24th May 2021 to all free school meal children in readiness for the Whitsun half term break. The Council also offer a collection service if delivery is not suitable, to arrange this please email catering@caerphilly.gov.uk or call 01443 864055.
PCR vs LFT tests
Please see the diagram below explaining the difference between the Covid Lateral Flow tests and the ‘PCR’ tests. The rapid LFTs are only to be taken when the individual has no symptoms. If an individual is displaying any of the Covid-19 symptoms, they must go to a testing centre for the full PCR test (these can also be ordered as a home testing kit).

Nursery Applications
If you have applied for a place for a Nursery child to start in September 2021, can you please message Mrs Wangiel on Class Dojo to let us know you have applied and we can check the list to ensure your child’s name is on there.
PDG Access Grant
Before the Easter holidays, application forms for the Welsh Government PDG Access grant were sent out to families who were eligible. The deadline isn’t until the 30th of June but it is advisable for the forms to be returned to school as soon as possible.
Online Safety
Over the half term week, please continue to monitor your child’s use of online devices, games and social media platforms. We are still alarmed daily by the number of children we have accessing age-restricted games and apps such as TikTok.
Please see the guide at the link below giving more information about TikTok and its often inappropriate content:
